A lecturer at Abia State University (ABSU) has shared an emotional account of an unexpected reunion with his former Nursery Three teacher, years after she taught him at St. Joseph’s Development Nursery/Primary School, Umuchichi, Aba.
The lecturer, who recounted the encounter in a reflective post, said he recently discovered that his former teacher, whom he fondly addressed as Aunty Ijeoma, had become a student in his department.
According to him, he initially did not realise that she was among the students attending his course until she recognised him in class.
“Wisdom! Is that you?” she reportedly exclaimed upon seeing him.
The lecturer said the encounter immediately brought back memories of his childhood, including his reputation as a “noise maker” in class and his teacher’s strict disciplinary methods.
He recalled that despite her firmness, his former teacher was caring and often shared her food with her pupils.
Reflecting on the reversal of roles, the lecturer said his former teacher expressed pride in the person he had become and jokingly asked to be placed under his supervision.
The encounter, he said, left him deeply humbled and prompted him to reflect on the unpredictable nature of life and the lasting influence of teachers.
He expressed gratitude to his teachers at every level of his education, acknowledging their contribution to his development and eventual career as a university lecturer.
The lecturer further used the experience to urge people, particularly those in positions to influence younger people, to support and encourage children and young people regardless of their present circumstances.
He emphasised that the future of every child remains uncertain and that the person receiving assistance today could one day become the person capable of offering help to others.
