JAMB gives candidates a final chance to resolve pending admission offers
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a fresh deadline for candidates who still have unresolved admission offers dating back to 2021.
According to the Board, affected candidates now have until September 30, 2026, to either accept or reject any outstanding admission offers on their records.
The latest deadline replaces the earlier August 31 deadline and gives candidates an additional month to regularise their admission status. However, JAMB has made it clear that the extension will be the final opportunity for candidates affected by the directive.
JAMB spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, announced the development in a statement issued on Saturday.
The Board warned that candidates who fail to take action before the new deadline will not receive another extension.
Any outstanding admission offer from 2021 to 2026 that remains neither accepted nor rejected by September 30 will automatically be changed to “Not Admitted” on JAMB’s records.
What Candidates Need to Know
The directive applies to outstanding regular admission offers as well as admissions issued through the Centralised University Information Admission (CUIIA) platform.
JAMB has therefore advised affected candidates to check their admission status and make a decision as soon as possible rather than waiting until the final days of the deadline.
Candidates who accept their outstanding offers will be able to proceed with the necessary steps, including printing and obtaining their admission letters.
Those who no longer want to take up an old admission offer can reject it. Once rejected, the admission status will be changed to “Not Admitted.”
What If You Are Already Studying Somewhere Else?
JAMB also provided clarification for candidates whose academic circumstances have changed since receiving their earlier admission offers.
Candidates who were previously offered admission to an institution but are no longer studying there may still accept the outstanding offer and subsequently pursue the appropriate correction or deletion where necessary.
The Board also addressed candidates who are currently studying for a second degree while still having an older admission offer that has not been accepted.
Such candidates may reject the old offer and continue with their current programme.
Importantly, candidates who have already secured admission during the 2026 admission exercise but still have older unaccepted offers can reject those previous offers without affecting their new admission.
Why JAMB Is Taking This Step
JAMB said the exercise is part of efforts to clean up and reconcile its national admission database.
According to the Board, removing unresolved admission offers will help ensure that candidates’ records accurately reflect their actual admission status and eliminate uncertainty surrounding old offers.
JAMB stressed that maintaining accurate admission records is important to the integrity and reliability of Nigeria’s admission system.
The Board has consequently urged candidates with outstanding offers to review their records and take the necessary action before September 30, 2026.
JAMB Gives Another Warning
The Board reiterated that September 30 is the final deadline.
Candidates who neither accept nor reject their outstanding offers before the deadline risk having the offers invalidated, with their admission records reverted to “Not Admitted.”
Meanwhile, JAMB has previously identified several reasons why candidates may not find their names on the matriculation list.
One common reason is failure to accept an admission offer through JAMB CAPS or having an admission status showing “Not Admitted.” Candidates in that situation may need to return to their institutions for further admission processing.
JAMB also noted that a candidate may be absent from the matriculation list because the institution has not submitted the required verified matriculation details.
Another possible issue is failure to print the original JAMB result slip and admission letter. Candidates affected by this are advised to visit a JAMB office or an approved CBT centre to obtain the necessary documents.
With the new deadline now set, candidates holding old or unresolved admission offers are advised to check their JAMB records immediately and avoid waiting until the September 30 cut-off.
