DSS Arrests 23-Year-Old Woman Over Alleged Arms Trafficking in Nasarawa
The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a 23-year-old woman, identified as Aisha Mohammed, over alleged arms trafficking in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The suspect, a resident of Bwari in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was reportedly arrested on Thursday with 202 rounds of 7.62mm-calibre ammunition and three empty magazines.
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule disclosed the arrest in a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra. The governor commended the DSS for its continued efforts to disrupt the activities of suspected gun runners and arms couriers in the state.
According to the statement, Mohammed remains in custody following the arrest. Authorities have not publicly disclosed further details about the alleged destination of the ammunition or the next steps in the investigation.
DSS Reports Other Arms Courier Arrests
The statement also highlighted other arrests carried out by security operatives between August and September 2026.
The suspects were identified as Hassan Sani, 40; Abdulkadir Idrissa, 41; and Salihu Garba, 70, also known as Nabayi.
Security operatives reportedly recovered 678 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 99 rounds of 7.5mm ammunition, alongside other items, during operations involving the three men.
In a separate operation in August, the DSS reportedly arrested another suspected arms courier, Ismail Lawalli, a native of Zamfara State, along the Keffi–Abuja highway.
According to the governor’s statement, 1,262 rounds of assorted ammunition were recovered during that operation.
The reported recoveries from the operations total 2,241 rounds of ammunition, based on the figures provided by the authorities.
Governor Sule Commends Security Agencies
Governor Sule praised DSS personnel and other security agencies operating in Nasarawa for their efforts to combat illegal arms trafficking and other criminal activities.
He also acknowledged cooperation between the security agencies and his administration, pledging continued government support for their operations.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist investigations and crime prevention.
Investigation Continues
The latest arrest comes amid security operations aimed at disrupting the movement of ammunition and illegal weapons in Nasarawa State and surrounding areas.
However, an arrest does not establish guilt. Further investigation and any subsequent court proceedings will be necessary to determine whether the allegations against the suspects can be proved.
As of the time of publication, no further details had been released about whether Mohammed or the other named suspects had been charged in court.
