Omoyele Sowore has renewed his allegations against the Ekiti State Government over the October 30 attack on him and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti, demanding an explanation over an alleged security warning issued hours before the incident and the whereabouts of CCTV recordings from the scene.
In a fresh response to a statement released by the Ekiti State Government on October 31, 2026, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential aspirant questioned the role of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s security officials and demanded an independent investigation into the incident.
Sowore also raised questions about the alleged relationship between the state government and Sola Adenijo, popularly known as Solar, whom he accused of leading the group responsible for the attack. These claims remain allegations and have not been independently established by the information provided.
The development comes after the Ekiti State Police Command announced the arrest of 11 suspects in connection with the reported attack.
Sowore Questions Alleged Security Warning Before Ekiti Attack
One of the major issues raised by Sowore concerns an alleged telephone conversation involving CSP Ayodele Akinlua, identified in his statement as the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to Governor Oyebanji.
Sowore claimed that at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Friday, October 30, Akinlua contacted Moyinoluwa Olowoyo, popularly known as Gigabytes, and warned that Sowore’s safety could not be guaranteed if he proceeded with his political activities in Ekiti State.
According to Sowore, the warning came several hours before armed individuals allegedly attacked him and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti.
He questioned why the governor’s security officer would issue such a warning before the incident and called for an explanation about who authorised the telephone conversation.
Sowore also asked whether Governor Oyebanji was aware of the alleged warning and what information security officials possessed about the possibility of an attack.
He described the reported communication as an important issue that investigators should examine when establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
However, the available statement does not include an independent account from Akinlua or confirmation of the alleged telephone conversation.
Sowore Accuses Ekiti Government of Mishandling Attack Allegations
The AAC presidential aspirant also criticised the Ekiti State Government’s October 31 press release, which was issued through the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode.
Sowore argued that the government’s response focused more on attacking his political standing and questioning his motives than addressing the reported violence.
He particularly objected to the government’s description of him as an inconsequential presidential candidate, questioning why his movements would attract attention from security officials if his political activities were considered insignificant.
He further alleged that Department of State Services (DSS) operatives disrupted his political meeting at a restaurant before the attack occurred.
Sowore maintained that the government should address these concerns rather than dismiss the incident as an ordinary disagreement.
His response also alleged that the government’s position strengthened his suspicion of possible official involvement. However, this remains his interpretation of the events and should not be treated as an established finding.
Sowore Demands Explanation Over Alleged Relationship With Sola Adenijo
Another major issue in Sowore’s response is his allegation concerning Sola Adenijo, popularly known as Solar, whom he identified as the alleged leader of the group that attacked him and his team.
Sowore claimed that Adenijo was receiving financial benefits from the Ekiti State Government. He challenged Governor Oyebanji’s administration to disclose whether the individual had received government payments, contracts, appointments, stipends or other benefits, either directly or indirectly.
He argued that the government should provide a specific explanation about its alleged relationship with Adenijo rather than issue a general denial of involvement in the incident.
However, the claim that Adenijo is on the state government’s payroll has not been substantiated by documentary evidence in the statement. The government has also not been independently shown to have any financial relationship with the individual based on the available information.
CCTV Footage: Sowore Wants Recordings Preserved and Released
Sowore has also called for the immediate preservation and public release of CCTV recordings from the restaurant where the attack reportedly took place and surrounding premises.
He believes the recordings could help establish what happened during the incident, identify the individuals involved and determine whether the attack was coordinated.
He further alleged that security operatives had attempted to remove CCTV recordings from the location.
Consequently, he wants the Ekiti State Government to explain who took possession of the recordings, where they are currently being kept and why they have not been made available.
He also called for the original recordings to be preserved to prevent alteration, while ensuring that the privacy of innocent bystanders is protected during any public release.
The demand for CCTV footage is particularly significant because Sowore disputes the characterisation of the incident as a mere altercation. He maintains that the recordings could provide important evidence to help investigators establish the sequence of events.
Security Personnel and Ikogosi Marathon Controversy Raised
Beyond the alleged attack itself, Sowore introduced another issue involving the security personnel attached to his team.
He claimed that members of his team were assaulted, injured and robbed during the incident. He also alleged that security personnel accompanying them were attacked and disarmed.
In addition, Sowore questioned a reported statement by the lead organiser of the Ikogosi Marathon, identified in his response as MKD Araoye, which allegedly declared that Sowore was not welcome at the event.
He argued that the statement raised further questions about possible official involvement, particularly because the Ekiti State Government was identified in his account as the event’s lead sponsor.
However, the available material does not independently establish the circumstances surrounding the reported ban or demonstrate that the marathon organisers participated in the attack.
These issues were among the additional concerns Sowore wants examined as part of a broader investigation into the October 30 incident.
Sowore Calls for Independent Investigation Into Ekiti Attack
The AAC presidential aspirant has called for an investigation that goes beyond the individuals already arrested by the police.
He wants investigators to examine the possible roles of the alleged attackers, their sponsors, the governor’s security personnel and any police or DSS officers who may have been involved.
His demands also include examining communication records, financial transactions, eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage that could help establish the facts.
The call follows the Ekiti State Police Command’s announcement on October 31 that 11 suspects had been arrested in connection with the reported attack.
The police had stated that investigations were ongoing to determine the individual roles of the suspects and identify other persons who might have been involved.
However, the arrest announcement did not establish the involvement of the governor, his security officials or any alleged political sponsors.
Sowore insists that the investigation must be independent and transparent, arguing that the state government should not determine the outcome of an investigation into allegations involving its own officials.
Government Yet to Address Specific Allegations Raised by Sowore
The latest response places several issues at the centre of the controversy, including the alleged advance warning, the activities of security operatives, the relationship with the individual identified as Solar and the handling of CCTV evidence.
While Sowore has maintained that the incident was a coordinated political attack, the allegations against the Ekiti State Government and the individuals he mentioned require independent investigation.
The police have confirmed the arrest of 11 suspects, but their announcement has not established who, if anyone, organised or financed the alleged attack.
Sowore says he will continue demanding accountability and has insisted that the incident will not discourage him from exercising his political rights.
The next important development will be whether the relevant authorities address the outstanding questions and provide further findings from their investigation.
