EFCC Returns $104,950 to US-Based Businesswoman
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned $104,950 to a US-based Nigerian businesswoman, Adeshola Oshilaja, following an investigation into an alleged procurement fraud involving 10 dump trucks.
The commission handed over the outstanding $56,000 to Oshilaja on Friday, October 9, at its Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 office in Ikoyi. The remaining $48,950 had earlier been paid directly to her by Babatunde Samuel Akinsanmi, the person accused in the case.
The investigation followed a petition by Oshilaja over funds provided for the procurement of the trucks from China. According to the EFCC, both parties signed an agreement on July 25, 2023, under which Akinsanmi acknowledged receiving the money and agreed to refund it by December 31, 2023.
Six trucks were subsequently delivered to Akinsanmi in Nigeria. Oshilaja alleged that he retained the vehicles for business purposes without remitting the proceeds to her.
The EFCC said the recovery was part of its efforts to return recovered funds to their rightful owners through due process.
